Let’s Talk about Books

Not only the books I’ve read, but the books I’ve acquired recently!

Yeah, I know… you’re thinking – Sarah, you got like 37 books for Christmas. You can’t possibly need more! – But you’d be wrong. There is always room for new books in my heart. True, I have plenty to read, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be able to totally resist the urge to buy books as they come out or pass up opportunities like the last few I’ve had to purchase books without it costing me a thing. You want an explanation, right?

Well for one, I received a $50 gift card to Amazon from one of my best friends and I still had a $25 gift card to Barnes & Nobles left over from Christmas. In addition to those gifted cards, I received two offers from Deal of the Day and Groupon for a $20 gift card to both Amazon and Barnes & Nobles for half the price. I couldn’t pass up these opportunities. So do the math… that’s a total of $70 to Amazon and $45 to Barnes & Nobles… we’re talking lots of books here guys. And so this is what I bought and have already received or can expect to receive over the next two months!

First I purchased and received I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, Book 1) by Pittacus Lore, Fire (Graceling, Book 2) by Kristin Cashore, and Darkfever (Fever Series, Book 1) by Karen Marie Moning.

I’ve already read I Am Number Four and of the 5 books I’ve read in 2011 so far, it was the best. It has a great family element to it, innocence that’s rare in most YA, and the alien world-building part of the story is really well done. I’m really looking forward to the second Lorien Legacies book, The Power of Six, coming out this summer and even though I know it will be different than the book, I can’t wait to see the movie (though Alex Pettyfer could have something to do with that, just saying). Check out the trailer (in case you’ve missed it):

My next book purchases, which I can expect to arrive sometime this week, were Trapped by Michael Northrop and Unearthly by Cynthia Hand.

And the rest of my book purchases were books I know I will just have to have on their release dates so I pre-ordered them. At the end of February/beginning of March I will receive Darkest Mercy (Wicked Lovely, Book 5) by Melissa Marr, Demonglass (Hex Hall, Book 2) by Rachel Hawkins, and Dark-Hunter Manga Vol. 4 by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Then towards the end of March/beginning of April I will receive Invincible (Chronicles of Nick, Book 2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Daughters of the Moon Vol. 2 by Lynne Ewing, and City of Fallen Angels (Mortal Instruments, Book 4) by Cassandra Clare.

I know the next two months are likely to be filled with re-reading some of these series continuations predecessors instead of some of the still new books I have waiting in my to-be-read pile, but I just can’t help it. Some of these new arrivals I’m anticipating so much that it’s taking everything I have to actually wait to re-read their series now. While I wait for them to arrive though, or be close to arriving, I will continue to plow through my to-be-read pile at the steady pace I’ve been keeping. Today I picked up Other by Karen Kincy. I didn’t really intend on reading for long, but 40+ pages later I still hadn’t put it down. If I keep reading tonight at that rate, I will likely finish it tomorrow which in my world equals good book!

Until Next Time,
Sarah

Rule Breaker?

I’ve made it very clear that I’m forbidden to buy books until after Christmas and I have succeeded at that despite the fact that I have received new books during this time. How, you’re wondering? Well, I did win a book so I got something in October and there were pre-orders for each of the months leading up to Christmas that I didn’t really count, but something even more awesome happened yesterday that allowed me to buy 5 new books without breaking my rule!

One of my closest friends knows I’m a book junkie and knows how hard my book buying restraint has been. Plus, books are what she’d buy me for Christmas (and/or any holiday), but considering I have so many I want choosing herself would be difficult. So, for Christmas (and early), she sent me a 50 dollar gift card for Amazon! 50 bucks! That’s 5 new books if I plan it properly! And so I did. Here are the awesome reads I have coming my way:

::Does a Happy Dance:: I’m so excited! Christmas comes early for me 😉

Random Stuff on a Wednesday

As to be expected, I’m feeling sad after finishing NO MERCY (Dark-Hunter, Book 19) (Also known as the last book in the series until February 2011). I tried to stretch it out as long as possible, but we all know how fast I blow through books now and it was impossible to pace myself to make it last.

BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS arrived yesterday and I still have THE REPLACEMENT to read this month as well, but I think it’s time I take a small break from books to work on my own.

I’m pretty sure I’ve officially made my characters angry as they’ve been visiting my dreams far more frequently than they had been with new ideas. I think they’re intimidated by my love for the Dark-Hunters. And that plot bunny that struck me this weekend about the elements didn’t help their ego. It’s time I give them some love too before I thrust myself into another story that doesn’t involve them. Hopefully some great writing will come as a result. *Fingers Crossed*

As you may have noticed I vanished from the internet world again. I really don’t understand it. I will open my email, FB, and LJ, but never look at any of them. I’m not even sure why I waste the time to open them. I just can’t stay focused online these days. So, once again I will be playing catch up, just not today because unfortunately I have other matters to tend to. ::Sigh:: (One of these days I’ll finally be back on pace.) I hope to be caught up by tomorrow – I promise I’m not ignoring you. And I’ll even have a special post tomorrow.

I’m a little crabby at the moment because I started a strict diet that does not satisfy how hungry I constantly am. I feel ravenous for food. I know it will pass as my stomach shrinks to the size it should be, but right now it’s making me crazy. Yesterday I swore I was going to eat my arm because it was 2:30pm and I was already starving, all the while knowing I couldn’t eat again until almost 6pm and even when I ate that it’d be the last thing I’d eat all day. Diets suck.

Peace – Sarah

EDIT (@11:46pm): Okay, so I ended up *catching up* tonight after all. I still have a few “famous” friends to catch up on, but I’m pretty sure I covered all I missed from the active LJ friends. If I missed it I will hit it up tomorrow when I finish the rest of what I’ve missed. I’m feeling determined at this point!
